Dear Sisters,
It is a joy for me and for all the members of the General Council to greet you through this letter. The year 2017 is a year of great significance to our Congregation as each of the three Provinces of our Congregation will hold the Province Chapter in preparation for the 2020 General Chapter in April 2017. To this effect, the Provincial will send you a circular for the convoking of the forthcoming Province Chapter in the Province. Your Provincial will inform about the other details relating the Province Chapter in your Province.

Province Chapter is conducted according to the Constitutions, norms, decisions of the General Chapter, Provincial Chapter and directions of the Superior General and her Council. The functions of the Province Chapter are:

  • to discuss the report of the Provincial on the growth and discipline of the Province
  • to review, evaluate and to promote the religious spirit and apostolic effectiveness of the Province
  • to review the decrees and deliberations of the previous General and Province Chapters
  • to make recommendations on behalf of the Province to be placed before the forthcoming General Chapter
  • to elect the Provincial and the Provincial Councillors
  • to deal with any other important matters.

The theme of the Province Chapter is “Living the Gospel options for life on periphery".

During the Province Chapter, Province will choose the new Provincial. We have a long tradition and a strong desire to listen to the voice of the Holy Spirit while discerning the election of our leaders. I recommend to everyone of you that the elect of your Provincial should be done in concentrated listening to the Spirit’s whisper. Please, don't indulge in canvassing or not to be guided by others or not to get organized on the basis of language and caste for we believe so strongly that the Spirit guides the balloting that according to our Constitutions and policies. Here is an opportune moment for everyone of us to practice true discernment in a prayerful atmosphere, avoiding any propaganda, pressurizing, canvassing, indulging in character assassination, etc. I am writing this because I hear that the sisters are disturbed due to the lobbying by some of us.

I invite all the members of the Province to enter into the important spiritual exercise of discernment. This becomes very important as you initiate the process of discerning the status of your Province and entering into a process to identify your Provincial who will respond to God’s Will. Let everyone discern before the Lord in an atmosphere of prayer and inner freedom what the Lord wants.
Let us accompany with prayers for each of our Provinces as they come together to discern God’s will for themselves and for the renewal of their lives.

Yours lovingly
